October 24, 2007 Update message from Pr. Gregg:  I have found out from Dadel Chagor Dual that Majok is safe and he has found his wife Nyalach Marong.  The hope of course is that Nyalach can return to the United States in December with Majok – this can be rather complicated – I am hoping that our two U.S. Senators may be of some help in the facilitation of this. But in the mean time we praise God for Majok’s safety and for his reuniting with Nyalach. At this time we have no word about Simon and his situation and we continue to pray for him.

Trinity members, Simon Kok and Majok Gatwech, left for Sudan on September 10, 2007.  Our parish sent them on their journey with our blessing and promise of continual prayer.  Simon is seeking to visit his mother and Majok to be reunited with his wife with hopes of bringing her back to Marshalltown.  The situation in Sudan is violent and dangerous and so we ask all of you to pray for their protection and to have success in finding their families.  As we are able, we will update this information for you.  Please stay informed through the various media about the situation in Sudan and be praying for an end to the violence within their country.  Also, pray for our increasing numbers of Sudanese members at Trinity and for our continued outreach to the Sudanese community of Marshalltown.  Following is the prayer that we offered for Simon and Majok at Eucharist the day before their departure:

"O God, our beginning and our end, you kept Abraham and Sara in safety throughout the days of their pilgrimage, you lead the children of Israel through the midst of the sea, and by a star you led the magi to the infant Jesus.  Protect and guide Simon and Majok now as they set out to travel to Sudan.  Make their way safe and their homecoming joyful.  Let all you holy angels and saints accompany them and bring them at last to their heavenly home, where you dwell in glory with our Lord Jesus Christ and the life-giving Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen."
